Landis & Gyr Stiftung Residency
Andrea Scartazzini is a Swiss composer, best known for his operas which have been performed at the leading opera houses in Europe. Andrea's works have been performed at the Salzburg Easter Festival, Lucerne Festival and Darmstädter Ferienkurse. They have been played by ensembles such as Kammerorchester Basel, Collegium Novum Zürich, Ensemble Contrechamps, Ensemble intercontemporain and Ensemble Phoenix.
In 2004-5, Andrea was composer in residence at the Witten/Herdecke University. In 2006, his opera Wut premiered at the Theater Erfurt. In 2012, Der Sandmann premiered at the Theater Baselwhich, staged by Christof Loy. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the Jacob Burckhardt Prize of the Goethe Foundation Basel (Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe-Stiftung), and the study prize (Förderpreis) of the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize.
Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland
The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
